The Memphis Tenants Union is a multi-racial, multi-generational, working-class organization dedicated to building collective tenant power. Memphis Tenants Union does this by facilitating relationships based on trust and accountability between neighbors in order to identify shared struggles, develop campaigns that win material gains, and fight together for housing justice.
The current housing system encourages and relies upon a culture of individualization and isolation. In order to reimagine this system, we must lead with values of solidarity, intersectionality, and compassion. We believe that housing is a human right, not a commodity to maximize profit, and that the people closest to the problem are closest to the solution.
Our organization is focused on building long-term renter power in Memphis. We are not lawyers or service providers, but rather a group of tenant leaders and organizers fighting for tenants' rights. If you and your neighbors are interested in organizing together to win against an unjust landlord, text or leave a message at 901-249-0650.
